I've been studying a lot of film and TV recently which has inspired me to write a post discussing my favourite scenes that I have watched over the years, the ones I think are powerful or have a deep emotional impact. It was really hard to whittle down this list as there are so many fantastic scenes that I go back to time and time again. However, I managed to narrow it down to ten incredible scenes, so let's dive into the list.
********************
There is an obvious spoiler warning for all the films and TV shows on the list, so if you don't wish to be spoiled for anything, just keep scrolling.
***********************
1) Elizabethtown (2005)- 'You Failed'
This is easily my favourite film of all time and I feel that scene really captures the essence of the movie and has such a huge emotional impact.
2) Doctor Who (Kill The Moon, Ep 7, S8,) - Clara's Outburst
This is such a pivotal moment for Clara's character and I think the way that Jenna Coleman owns the scene is so powerful, some really great acting.
3) The Crown (Ep 10, S4) - Charles and Diana Fight
This barely needs an explanation, the acting in this scene is incredible and won both Josh O'Connor and Emma Corrin Golden Globes. I mean, you can absolutely see why.
4) Derry Girls (Ep 6, S2) - Erin's Prom Date
Moving onto a more light-hearted note. It's no secret that I adore this show and there were so many great moments to choose from, but I've always loved this scene, it's incredibly heartfelt and something we can all relate to, I think, having our heart broken and our friends coming through for us.
5) The Witcher (Ep 6, S1) - Yennefer Leaves Geralt
Content Warning: Strong language
This show is full of dramatic moments but for me, this is the most powerful one. We really see the vulnerability of the two characters and we feel the emotion as they finally part from one another.
6) Little Women (2020) - Laurie's Proposal
This is by far one of my favourite scenes from a film of all time. The raw emotion that comes from both of these characters is so powerful and the context makes it all the more heart-breaking. The on-screen chemistry between Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet is off the scale and, in my opinion, makes the scene what it is.
7) IT (2017) 'Kill This Clown'
Content Warning: Strong horror, violence and language
This film had it's issues but at the heart of it was just a bunch of kids trying to fight the good fight and defeat the sewer-lurking clown, Pennywise. I feel like this scene really highlights this. After going through every bad thing that has happened to them, we are reminded that the Loser's Club will always come together in the end.
8) Teen Wolf (Ep 18, S3) - Stiles' MRI
This show is full of emotional and heartfelt moments but this is one of the most prominent in my opinion. After a multitude of harrowing events, Stiles confiding in Scott here is so wrought with emotion and really shows the vulnerability of the character. Scott's promise to Stiles at the end showcases the strong bond the two characters have and is such a powerful line to be delivered.
9) The Impossible (2012) - Family Reunion
Based on real events, this entire movie is a rollercoaster of emotions that come to a head in this heartfelt scene when one family, separated by a tsunami, are finally reunited again. I love this scene because it just feels so honest and true, and we can really empathise with the characters.
10) The Durrells (Ep 7, S3) - Leslie Brings Bad News
Yes, I'm raving about this show again because I love it with my whole heart and I think more people should watch it. For all it's laugh-out-loud moments and fun, it also deals with some serious societal issues of the time, and this scene highlights this so well. The underlying message is extremely powerful and I believe the reactions of the characters here show that love and acceptance is the most important thing in the face of hatred.
So, there we have it. The run-down of my favourite scenes from films and TV shows. There were so many incredible scenes that didn't quite make the list but these were the top ten in my eyes.
