My reads this month

October is almost over which means the nights are getting longer and the weather is getting colder. In my opinion, there's nothing better to do at this time of year than curling up with a good book. As a result, I thought I would take the opportunity to discuss the books that I have read this month. Any excuse for me to talk books, really. Anyway, let's kick start the list.

Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall

This touching book gives the reader an unfiltered perspective of mental illness. To give you a brief overview of the plot, it centres on the main character, who suffers from agoraphobia. This is until the typical cute boy moves in across the street. The book follows her journey to getting to know this boy and making the effort to break down her barriers for him. What really struck me about this book was how it didn't try and sugarcoat the topic of mental illness. For me, this made the book stand out a lot more.

Cordially Invited by Zoe Sugg Calling anyone who loves all things lifestyle, this book is the perfect autumn pick for you. Written by Youtuber Zoe Sugg, this book gives you all sorts of seasonal tips to making your home perfect for any guest. I loved this book as it was right up my street and I would recommend it to anyone dreaming of becoming the perfect host. It's a shorter read but it's incredibly aesthetically pleasing and this made just flicking through the pages fun. The whole book is, in my opinion, really well put together and I could really see the effort she put into it.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas I only just recently finished this book so it is still fresh in my mind and, wow, this really is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It is so thought provoking and, in parts of it, I felt angry over the way the main character was treated. It tells the story of the main character, Starr, who witnessed her best friend shot by a police officer and follows her journey to get justice for him. This book shines a light on the Black Lives Matter movement and really puts into perspective the racial differences in society. For me, this book is a must read for everyone.
